Teachers: Jay Sheaffer and Neil Figuracion
Description: Are you looking for more in dances with your partners? Do you want clarity, simplicity and more inspiration on the dance floor? Jay Sheaffer and Neil Figuracion are teaming up for a new class called Connection 101!
In Connection 101, we’ll focus on the physical connection to our partner and the music as the foundations to drive the dance. We’ll move beyond moves and sequences to explore techniques that deepen shared connection, creating more comfort, responsiveness, and space for improvisation.
Dates: March 16 and 23
Prerequisites: 6 and 8 count swing patterns, Charleston
Teacher Bios:
Jay Sheaffer is a switch dancer who teaches Lindy Hop, Jazz, and Blues, and will shake it on almost any dance floor. After over a decade in San Francisco, Jay recently returned to Chicago and its vibrant dance community. As a teacher, Jay embodies a forever-student mindset and can be found training in House, Lindy Hop, and Jazz at local studios, as well as at national and regional festivals.
Hailing from the inner city of East Los Angeles, Neil Figuracion (any pronouns) will soon celebrate 29 years of dancing Lindy Hop. Neil was one of the first in the Southern California scene to collect and share swing dance clips on VHS, compiled through searching specialty video shops in those olden pre-Youtube days. Nowadays, Neil reads comics, plays board games, roller skates, and also dances sometimes.
