First Saturday Arts Market is Houston's original monthly outdoor fine art market. Founded in March 2004, it runs the first Saturday of each month, September through May, from 11am to 6pm at 540 W. 19th St. in the Historic Houston Heights. Admission is always free. The rain date is the second Saturday.
The artist-juried market typically features about 40 visual artists showing original work in painting, sculpture, photography, jewelry, glass, ceramics, fiber, wood, printmaking, and mixed media. It is one of the few in the country where current artists help jury new applicants. Shoppers can meet the artists, buy work directly, and stroll the lot between Adore Dentistry and Penzeys Spices.
Vivre Coffee Collective is on site every month. At the November 7 market, local musicians perform, with Heights Fools on Stools around noon, and The Toasted food truck serves Salvadorian-American sandwiches. Street parking, the lot under the mural, and nearby options are available.
