FINISSAGE EXPO: ALMOST A POLYPHONY

You are warmly invited to the finissage of ‘Almost a Polyphony’ by artist Toni Brell!
The finissage brings together three positions that explore how sound, materials and shared attention give rise to forms of communication beyond spoken language.
Extending the exhibition’s questions around listening and relation, Æon Teunissen approaches atmosphere as language through modular material arrangements and neurodivergent ways of thinking. Anouk Hoogendoorn introduces Movements in Proximity, a social practice tracing how qualities and processes move between peers and different modes of making. In cycles that blossom, Mikko Sarvanne performs with modular sampler and speaking voice, drawing sounds of stones, water and skin into rhythmic cycles that blossom into resonant, organ-like chords.
During the finissage the results of Toni’s ceramic instrument making workshop will be presented. Workshop participants can come pick up their glazed and fired ceramics!
The event is made possible with the generous support of Iona Stichting.

About the contributors:
Artistic researcher Anouk Hoogendoorn will talk about the social practice of 'Movements in Proximity,' which wonders how sparks and traces between different modes of making and peers move from one to another. This moving is not an exchange as something transactional or interpersonal, but a form of sharing qualities and processes.
Æon Teunissen works with modular arrangements of material, starting from neurodivergent methodologies of thinking and processing. Atmospheric conditions operate as a form of language instead, in which material and compositional force bypass a predetermined narrative.
Mikko Sarvanne performs with modular sampler and voice, examining magical corporeality through sounds of stones, water and skin. “Cycles that blossom” is a continuously developing composition and performance practice by Mikko Sarvanne, for modular sampler and speaking voice. Sounds of stones, water and skin are drawn into cycles of rhythmic rumble, which hold the potential to blossom into resonant organ-like chordal structures. Their voice connected to the modular sampler system the boundaries of the performer’s body and the natural materials oscillate between solidification and dissolution.
