About this Event
What does “home” mean when your life crosses cultures, languages and identities?
For some, home is a place. For others, it is a language, a family, a community, a collection of memories or simply the feeling that you no longer need to explain who you are.
At the heart of the conversation is Haha Britain, a collection of forty personal stories written by Chinese people living in Britain. Each story offers a different perspective on British life and invites us to listen to the diversity of experiences within the Chinese community and to consider why these stories matter.
The discussion will also explore what it means to grow up between identities. Through the experiences shared on the Not Made in China podcast, we will hear about adoptees reconnecting with their heritage and navigating questions of identity, family, home and belonging.
Moderator: Dr Xiaobing Wang - senior lecturer (associate professor) in the Department of Economics at the University of Manchester, and the research director at Manchester China Institute.
