As the real-world consequences of social media come into focus, a resilient coalition of parents, Gen Z reformers and whistleblowers are swinging back. Can we rebuild the tools of our time to serve humanity, or will we remain captive to the scroll?
Join Newmark J-School’s Arts & Culture Reporting program for a screening of “Your Attention Please.” And then, join a post-screening Q&A featuring Kovie Biakolo, Director of the Arts & Culture Reporting Program, and the following guests:
- Grace Byron, a writer from the Midwest based in Queens whose work has appeared in The New Yorker, New York Magazine, The Nation, and Vogue, among other outlets. Byron frequently writes about media, trans politics, and digital culture.
- Joni Siani, a professor of psychology and media communications and a pioneer in digital socialization. Siani is also a global consultant on digital socialization and advisor to numerous organizations, including Media Literacy Now, the Screentime Action Network at Fairplay, and the Distraction Free Childhood movement.
- David Ryan Polgar, the Founder and President of All Tech Is Human, a global non-profit uniting technologists, researchers, academics, policymakers, and civil society to build a safer digital future. Polgar is also a globally recognized pioneer in tech ethics and has served on key advisory bodies, including TikTok’s U.S. Content Advisory Council.
