Fest O’ Theatre: South Asian 2026 marks a milestone for DFW Play as the sixth edition of the festival and the organization’s first South Asian theatre festival. Building on years of championing Bengali theatre in North Texas, the festival now expands to embrace South Asian languages and performance traditions. This new chapter celebrates the richness of South Asian storytelling through a curated lineup of productions that span genres, styles, and perspectives.
Over the years, DFW Play has grown into an important platform for the South Asian and Indian diaspora, amplifying stories of identity, heritage, and contemporary life. Fest O’ Theatre: South Asian 2026 invites artists and audiences to come together in a space of exchange and discovery, where diverse voices meet on stage and theatre becomes a shared, living conversation.
There will be three longer length plays and a mini theater series. The series will consist of 3-4 impactful pieces from regional languages to dance ensembles. All plays will have English supertitles.
The Main Stage Lineup
Your Festival Pass grants you entry to all these powerhouse productions:
ADHE ADHURE by Mohan Rakesh | DFW Play (DALLAS) | Dir: Raj Bhattacharyya | Lang: Hindi. Widely considered the first modern Hindi play, this is a raw, unflinching look at the fragmentation of the middle-class family. It remains as relevant and haunting today as the day it was written.
FIVE GRAINS OF RICE | Ebong Theatrix (DC) | Writer & Dir: Arindam Ghosh | Lang: English The critically acclaimed, multi-award-winning contemporary drama. A taut, slow-burn psychological journey that explores the fragile truths and buried resentments within a marriage.
KOHRA by Utpal Dutta | KrossRoads Performing Arts (BOSTON) | Dir: Amitava Lala | Lang: Hindi. Kohra isn’t just a play; it’s a high-tension suspense thriller that dives deep into the shadows of the human mind. After haunting Boston audiences with its gripping mystery, this celebrated production finally makes its way to Dallas.
Mini Theater Series
Same festival pass grants you access to the multilingual short plays with regional traditions.
KATHA: DRAUPADI | NSDA | Dir: Guru Vandita Parikh | Lang: English. A visceral exploration of a queen born of fire, whose refusal to bend becomes a prophecy of revolution.
BOOM CHIKI CHIKI BOOM | Natyapandhari Theaters | Dir: Deepak Salamwade | Lang: Marathi. A gripping drama where the thirst for revenge collides with Gandhian ideals to redefine the meaning of justice.
ARUPADAI VEEDU | Shreebala Nrithyalaya | Dir: Guru Rajalakshmi Krishna | Lang: Tamil. A vibrant celebration of Tamil heritage, blending Bharatanatyam and folk dance to tell a divine tale of love, disguise, and destiny.
LIFELINE | Sarasija Theaters | Dir: Rajeswari Udayagiri | Lang: Telugu & English: A poignant experimental drama following a woman’s struggle for dignity and emotional survival amidst the relentless pressures of modern urban life.
