About this Event
The Fens Fresk is an interactive and collaborative participatory workshop that aims to build flood risk literacy in the east Anglian Fens. It is modelled after the Climate Fresk, a workshop that teaches participants about the causes and consequences of changing climate systems at a global scale.
The Fresk is an interactive workshop in which participants work in small groups to create a shared verbal and visual vocabulary to understand how flood risk has been constructed over time in the Fens, to learn about existing initiatives to address flooding in the Fens, and to brainstorm potential flood management solutions.
During the Fresk, participants will use a visual tool (a set of illustrated cards) to connect the landscape history of the Fens to current challenges, opportunities, and adaptation strategies to manage flood risk.
Who this Workshop is For
Like the Climate Fresk, the Fens Fresk is meant to be accessible to a non-technical adult audience - beginners may learn the basics of flood risk literacy while experts deepen their understanding of the relationships between past, present, and future landscape change and risks in the Fens.
Anyone who lives, works, is interested in, or spends time in the east Anglian Fens. No background is needed. The session is equally open to residents and community groups, architects, engineers, landscape architects, flood risk managers, students, and researchers.

Participation and Ethics
The Fens Fresk workshop is part of Kira Clingen’s PhD project in the Department of Architecture at the University of Cambridge. As part of the workshop, participants will be provided with a participant information and ethics form, and asked to fill out a pre- and post-workshop questionnaire to evaluate the Fresk’s effectiveness. Participation in the Fresk is completely voluntary.
