Turkish immigrant Husseyin (Parviz Sayyad) spends his days as a “guest worker” in 1970s West Berlin moving between his cramped, shared apartment and commuting to his job at a factory pressing machine parts. Saving his earnings in hopes to one day marry and buy a house back home, Husseyin’s dream of a bright future in Berlin is hindered by racist coworkers and an inability to make romantic connections. Directed by Sohrab Shahid Saless, one of the most celebrated filmmakers in Iranian cinema, "Far From Home" emerged at a time when he left Iran to live and work in Berlin, and is a deeply felt portrait of the immigrant experience.
This screening will offer our member price of $7 to all attendees.
