Join us for our version of a wholesome evening on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 6:30 p.m. to celebrate the launch of Ani King’s new flash fiction collection, “Family Night”! To add to the family feel, members from our homegrown #LansingReads book club Jen Crispin, Alexx Delzer, and David Edmonds will be joining Ani at the proverbial dinner table for some conversation about the collection. Ani will also be sharing some excerpts, highlighting how their stories offer both a lyrical celebration of queerness and an exploration of family and loss, often through a lens of magical realism. Stories featured in “Family Night” include a teen girl attempting to summon her missing mother home with cigarette smoke and yacht rock songs; two sisters disputing how to care for an unhealthy elderly unicorn; a woman accidentally raising two daughters from the bones of her long-dead pet rabbits.
We’ll also have copies of Ani’s books on hand, perfect for those looking to bring a hint of Lansing home for the holidays.
