WANTED: ART DETECTIVES.
CAN YOU LOOK AT ART? ARE YOU ABLE TO THINK?
We need families to investigate our latest exhibition Prefab Paradise. On the 15th July 2026 at 1pm it landed in the middle of Turf Projects. Why is it here? Who sent it and what is it trying to say? With mysteries to unlock, we need detectives to solve these many questions. With your own case file and your lead detective, Michael Crowe from Spaghetti Club, join in writing exercises exploring small worlds sent from the future and a train going round and round…
This workshop is a Turf Projects Family Art Fun Day - offering children and their families a chance to make and play together. Art Detectives is a creative writing and drawing workshop, offering a fun way to explore art and respond to it, so families can look at, interpret and enjoy art together. This workshop is appropriate for 7+ ages.
ABOUT MICHEAL:
Michael Crowe is a writer, artist and teacher based in St Albans. His work has shown up at LACMA, in St Gallen, and at Le Plateau in Paris, and he's talked about it at the New Museum NY and the BFI. He runs Spaghetti Club [@spaghetti_clurb], a creative writing and thinking project for children, named one of Frieze Magazine's best exhibitions in the UK and Ireland. Michael has also taught a dance workshop in Korea, published an Oulipo-themed book on GTA Online, and designed fictional flowers for LEGO.

Grounded in themes of place and belonging, Turf creates space and opportunities that nurture emerging and under-represented creative practices. Our work aims to help people to encounter and make art together that helps shape the spaces and experiences around us.
We do this through free exhibitions, workshops, collaborative projects, affordable artist studios, making facilities, resources and two artist collectives of young artists & learning disabled artists.
Deeply rooted in Croydon, Turf shows how cultural organisations rooted in communities can create change with national ambition, relevance and impact.
We’ve created more than 600 paid opportunities for artists since 2013.

Around 30% of people booking free tickets don't attend. As a charity, we aim to support people who need creative opportunities the most and our free tickets are limited and in high demand. Every person who doesn’t turn up means someone else can’t attend, so please let us know if you can’t make it to free up a space. If you don’t attend twice or more without letting us know, you may be restricted from booking again.
