Art 120 is partnering with Lotus Fashion Collective and 4FC Productions to provide the Common Threads Fashion Camp for youth, ages 15 - 22 in our community.Led by creative producer and teaching artist Shanna Forrestall, students will explore areas including fashion design and upcycling, styling, modeling, hair and makeup, creative direction, visual storytelling, self-expression and runway presentation. Students will be encouraged to experiment across disciplines while discovering how different creative roles work together to bring an idea from concept to the runway.
Participants do not need to arrive as experienced designers—or even know exactly where they fit.
“Fashion is much bigger than clothing,” says Forrestall. “It takes designers, models, stylists, artists, hair and makeup creatives, storytellers and people who know how to bring all of those pieces together. Common Threads is about helping young people discover where their own creative voice fits—and then showing them what can happen when individual voices collaborate.”
Morning sessions will incorporate Forrestall’s Full Circles and Intentional Influencer creative-development curriculum, helping participants explore identity, intention, communication and the ideas they want their work to express. Students will then move into hands-on experimentation and collaborative creation throughout the week.
Cost is $250 for the entire week, and scholarships are available for youth who qualify for free/reduced lunch. Only 8-12 spots are available for this workshop.
Classes will take place at the Art 120’s new Studio at Sculpture Fields, which is located at 2001 Polk Street in Chattanooga. The camp will culminate with public showcase held at Miller Park on October 17th.
Applications are being reviewed as they are received, and interested participants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
