About this Event
Exploring Ink: Acrylic & Alcohol Ink Workshop
Discover the expressive and often unpredictable possibilities of ink in this relaxed two-hour workshop, exploring both acrylic inks and alcohol inks and the very different effects that can be achieved with each.
Ink has been part of my own art practice for many years and is a medium I return to again and again. I have used it across a wide range of commissioned artworks, including pieces created for international hotel and interior projects. I particularly love the way ink moves and reacts – creating marks, layers and unexpected effects that are difficult to achieve with other materials.
During the workshop, I will demonstrate a range of techniques before giving you plenty of time to experiment and develop your own work. We will explore colour, abstract mark-making, layering, movement and different ways of manipulating the inks, allowing the materials themselves to become part of the creative process.
You will work across a variety of papers, surfaces and different paper weights and textures, experimenting with how the inks behave differently on each. We will look at how the ink can be controlled, encouraged to move, layered and combined, as well as what happens when you allow it to behave more freely.
The emphasis is very much on experimentation and discovery rather than producing one perfect finished piece. You will create a collection of studies and works throughout the session, giving you the opportunity to try different approaches, make mistakes, build confidence and discover techniques that you may want to develop further in your own creative practice.
The workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as those with painting or creative experience. You do not need to know how to draw or have worked with ink before.
All materials are included, including acrylic and alcohol inks and a selection of papers and surfaces to experiment with. Just come along ready to explore and enjoy the process.
Workshops are kept to a maximum of 10 people, allowing plenty of opportunity for individual guidance throughout the session.
