“Everyone can act. Everyone can improvise.”Viola Spolin
Once, before we learned to be careful, to organize, to anticipate, before we started thinking about what to say, how to stand, and how we look to others, we knew how to play.
To create worlds out of nothing.
To become someone else for a while.
To laugh for no reason.
To say “let’s go!” without knowing where it would take us.
As we grew older, we learned to be serious.
To have the answers.
To avoid mistakes.
And yet, there is a part of us that still wants to play.
Theatre can become a place where we return to that part.
A place where we can be present.
To dare.
To discover.
To exist a little more freely, without having to know in advance who we are supposed to be.
In this workshop, we will explore presence, communication, voice, body and our relationship with ourselves and with others, through:
• Theatre games & improvisation
• Physical and vocal expression
• Breath, rhythm & relaxation
• Trust, connection & group exercises
• Texts, images, silence and whatever emerges from the group
We will try things without needing to get them right.
Because improvisation does not ask us to know.
It asks us to be there, listen, respond, let go and say “yes” to the unexpected.
The process comes first. Rather than working towards a fixed final performance, we focus on the experience itself: the discoveries, the connections and the creative possibilities that emerge along the way. If, through our work together, something takes shape that the group feels inspired to share, there will be space for that too.
Who is it for?
For adults who are curious about theatre, improvisation and creative expression whether you have never acted before or already have theatre experience.
For native and fluent English speakers, as well as Greek speakers who would like to practise their English through theatre.
A high level of English is required.
You do not need to be an actor.
You do not need to be “good” at improvisation.
You only need curiosity, openness and a willingness to play.
And perhaps that is what play is, after all:
remembering that we do not always need to know where we are going in order to say, “let’s go!”
All we need is a place to begin.
