Join us on Tuesday 24 March at 6pm at Soho Mews House(8 Lancashire Ct, London W1S 1EY) for an intimate conversation between Esquire’s Editor-in-Chief, Teo van den Broeke, and acclaimed British actor Paapa Essiedu.
One of the most compelling performers of his generation, Essiedu works across television, film and theatre, earning Emmy and BAFTA nominations for his breakout role in Michaela Coel’s era-defining series I May Destroy You. His screen credits include Black Mirror, The Lazarus Project, Gangs of London, and Alex Garland’s Men, alongside standout stage performances with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre.
He was recently seen performing alongside Marianne Jean-Baptiste and Bryan Cranston in All My Sons at Wyndham’s Theatre, whilst also filming HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series, in which he will play Severus Snape. Upcoming projects also include Channel 4 drama Falling, the BBC series Babies, and the comedy horror film The Scurry.

PAAPA ESSIEDU
Paapa Essiedu is an acclaimed British actor working across television, film and theatre. The London-born performer received Emmy and BAFTA nominations for his breakout role in Michaela Coel’s era-defining series I May Destroy You.
He is currently filming HBO’s Harry Potter series, starring as Severus Snape alongside John Lithgow, Janet McTeer, Nick Frost and Warwick Davis, and will also appear opposite Keeley Hawes in the upcoming Channel 4 drama Falling, directed by Peter Hoar.
On stage, Paapa recently starred alongside Marianne Jean-Baptiste and Bryan Cranston in All My Sons at Wyndham’s Theatre. Recent theatre work includes Death of England: Delroy in Clint Dyer and Roy Williams’ Death of England trilogy, earning him an Olivier nomination for Best Actor.
Recent screen credits include The Outrun with Saoirse Ronan, Black Mirror (Demon 79), The Lazarus Project, The Genie, and The Effect at the National Theatre. Upcoming projects include the comedy horror film The Scurry and BBC drama series Babies.
His wider credits span The Capture, Gangs of London, Anne Boleyn, Black Earth Rising, and stage productions including Hamlet (RSC), King Lear (National Theatre) and Pass Over.
TEO VAN DEN BROEKE
Teo van den Broeke joined Esquire UK as Editor-in-Chief in April 2025. Teo is an author and award-winning journalist and podcaster. He began his career in journalism in 2010, serving as Style Director for Esquire UK and British GQ before joining Soho House as Global Editorial Director in 2022, where he helped develop and execute the brand’s worldwide content strategy. His memoir, The Closet, was published by HarperCollins in 2023.
