Espíritu Flamenco is delighted to welcome guest artists from Andalucía for a special evening of traditional flamenco music, singing and dance.
Joining artists from Spain and the UK, this intimate live performance once again brings the spirit of Andalucía to Didsbury — with the rhythm, emotion and spontaneity that make flamenco so captivating.
Featuring:
💃 Maria José León Soto — Flamenco dancer
Originally from Jerez de la Frontera, Maria José is an acclaimed dancer and choreographer who began her professional career at just 17. She has performed alongside leading names including Joaquín Cortés and has appeared in major productions including Alzabache at the 1992 Seville Expo.
🎶 José Luis Salguero Andújar — Cantaor (flamenco singer) & guitarist
Born in Huelva, José trained in flamenco guitar before specialising in cante (flamenco singing for dance), as well as palmas and cajón. Now based in Italy, he has worked with some of the biggest names in flamenco dance and guitar and contributed to numerous recordings and soundtracks.
🎶 Michael McMahon — Flamenco guitarist
A British-Cypriot guitarist and composer based in London, Michael spent four years studying traditional Andalusian flamenco techniques at the prestigious Fundación Cristina Heeren in Seville. He now performs throughout the UK, accompanying dancers and theatrical productions as well as performing traditional flamenco music.
💃The evening is brought together by Sarah Chambers, founder of Manchester-based Espíritu Flamenco, a collective dedicated to bringing authentic live flamenco, workshops and cultural events to venues across the Northwest.
Sarah has spent more than 15 years studying traditional flamenco, including directly with masters in Jerez, Cádiz and Granada, developing a deep connection with the music, dance and culture of Andalucía.
