Meet the curator of a new exhibition at Central Library.
About this Event

The exhibition “Esperanto Wor(l)ds” tells the fascinating story of the making of the Esperanto language community in the early years of the 20th century.

It focuses on John Beveridge and his two daughters, Lois and Heather, who were actively involved in the establishment of Esperanto as an international language in Dundee, in nearby Perth and across Scotland in the years prior to 1914. Meeting at the exhibition space at the Central Library, Professor Bernhard Struck (University of St Andrews) will walk you through the history of Esperanto and the John Beveridge collection at display.

If you wish to learn more how Esperanto became such a wide-ranging language community between Scotland, Poland, Bulgaria, Finland, Japan and indeed across the world in this period, do come along.

If you are interested in reading more, the book “Postcards, Translators and Esperanto Pioneers. An Alternative History of International Communication” is available online at University of London Press

Please meet at Central Library reception.
