Paddle Surf Summit -- All Levels
This in-person event combines a free surf session for the more seasoned with structured learning for beginners. Solimar is a beach and break that is friendly to boards and boats like ours. We'll be there at what should be a welcoming tide and wind level.

Beginner /Refresh Instruction -- We'll Bring the Boats
Info: Learn about gear, safety, and basic moves. Several nationally certified instructors will be on hand to help you have a great time. If you're totally new to waves, haven't paddled in the surf for a while, or just want to try new boats in the waves, this is the event for you!!! Please have your own PFD and wetsuit. Topics may include:
- Launching: positioning and timing, depth of water, side saddle technique (Sit-On-Top Kayaks).
- Holding position in the soup: bow to the waves, stern to the waves, parallel to the waves – bracing, side surfing
- Paddle out: timing, reaching over the back of the wave, paddle position when punching through waves, using a rip
- Positioning: drift, sets, reading the water - previous waves, observation of other
surfers
- Take off: waiting for waves, timing, upright posture, power forward stroke, straight / angled take off
- Riding the wave: diagonal run, stern rudder, changes of direction (head, torso, paddle, edge), prepare for broach

Surf Session Details
Info: Ready to charge and have your own equipment? Then come to Solimar Reef for a late September session. Tide will be going down and the wind probably still won't be up so come greet Fall and the return of northwest swell after a southwest summer. Help build enthusiasm for the sport. Our new paddlers are sure to appreciate seeing you out there.
