About this Event
Explore the Entangled Light exhibition during a special late opening at Islington Mill. Join artist-researchers Helen McGhie and Antony Hall from Manchester Metropolitan University’s School of Digital Arts for a guided tour of the photographs and the More-Than-Human Photography Studio, co-created with local communities.
Installed throughout Islington Mill and Incredible Edible Salford community gardens, the exhibition explores relationships between creativity, ecology, sustainable energy and place. Photographs include portraits of Salford communities made by Helen McGhie and still life images created by Year 5 pupils from St Philip’s CE Primary School, members of Islington Mill Art Academy, Incredible Edible Salford volunteers and local residents.
There will also be a pop-up soil-powered light installation in the More-Than-Human Photography Studio, located within the shipping container where photographs were made.
During the tour, participants will:
- Explore the Entangled Light exhibition with the project leads
- Learn about the creative processes behind the project
- Experience a pop-up soil-powered light installation
- Meet project participants and learn about their involvement with Entangled Light

Islington Mill is fully accessible. Accessible toilets, Assistance dogs welcome. Live/closed captioning. Please note, some of the exhibition tour will take place outdoors. Due to the cobbled courtyard, there are some uneven outside surfaces. Access support will be provided.
