About this Event

EmpowerMOM
A Shower Celebrating Expecting Mothers
Saturday, April 3, 2027 | 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM

One week before Black Maternal Health Week, EmpowerMOM returns to Atlanta for an afternoon of education, celebration, connection, and community.

Black Maternal Health Week, held every April 11–17, calls attention to a hard truth: Black mothers in the United States face higher rates of serious pregnancy complications and maternal death, and many of those outcomes are preventable. We gather the week before because information matters most when it reaches mothers before they need it.

EmpowerMOM was created by Dr. Phindile Erika Chowa, a board-certified Emergency Medicine physician and founder of EMCare2U, after seeing how many women move through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum feeling overwhelmed, underprepared, and unsupported.

She envisioned a different kind of gathering, where expecting mothers are showered not only with gifts, but with knowledge, trusted resources, expert guidance, and a stronger village.

EmpowerMOM brings mothers, families, birth workers, health professionals, sponsors, and community partners into one room to help close the gaps in maternal care. Every mother deserves clear information, culturally competent support, and the confidence to speak up for herself and her baby, and to be heard.

Whether you are trying to conceive, currently expecting, preparing for your first baby or your fourth, or navigating the postpartum season, this afternoon was created with you in mind. Partners, family members, and support people are welcome. This event is for the whole village.
