This concert will feature a talented artist from the ECSQ's ninth annual Young Artist Mentorship Program, Daniel Sanabria Torres, flute.
Daniel Sanabria Torres is a Colombian flutist from Bogotá who began his musical career at the age of six. At just thirteen years old, he was invited to perform with violinist André Rieu in Bogotá. He now continues his musical training at the Conservatory and performs as a member of the Greater Victoria Youth Orchestra. He was named the 2025 winner of the Cowichan Consort Concerto Competition and the Greater Victoria Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition, and placed first in the FCMF National Music Festival in both Ensemble and Developing Artist divisions, and first in Junior Woodwinds at the Performing Arts BC Festival.
Robert Holliston, host, an accomplished accompanist and chamber player, has performed throughout Canada, the USA, England, New Zealand, and has been heard frequently on CBC-Radio. A popular public speaker, Robert has given pre-performance lectures for Pacific Opera Victoria since 1993 and is POV’s Principal Coach. Robert is currently Head of Keyboard at the Victoria Conservatory of Music, where he also teaches piano and music history, and acts as vocal coach. Robert was a founding director of the VCM Opera Studio.
Formed in 2006 by members of the Victoria Symphony, the Emily Carr String Quartet has established itself as one of British Columbia’s finest chamber music ensembles renowned for its passionate and inspiring performances. They have participated in residencies at Stanford University and the Banff Centre and have collaborated and recorded with such artists as: the Lafayette String Quartet, Lorraine Min, Marion Newman, Jamie Parker and Arthur Rowe.
The quartet has been presented by numerous concert events such as the International Society for Contemporary Music's 2017 World Music Days, Music in the Morning and Music on Main concert series in Vancouver, the Ankara Music Festival in Turkey, Hornby Festival and the Victoria Summer Music Festival.
