About this Event
A one-day course for people who look after babies and young children at work. It covers what to do in the first few minutes of a serious emergency, before the ambulance arrives.
The training is practical. You’ll spend most of the day on the floor with infant and child manikins, practising the skills until they come automatically.
Who it’s for
Nursery and preschool staff, school support staff, nannies, au pairs, and anyone else responsible for children aged 0 to 11.
What’s covered
- Your role and responsibilities as a paediatric first aider
- Assessing an emergency and keeping yourself and others safe
- Dealing with an infant or child who is unresponsive and breathing
- Infant and child CPR
- Choking in infants and children
- Controlling serious bleeding
- Recognising and managing shock
EYFS requirements
This 6 hour course is designed for staff who need an emergency paediatric first aid certificate under the Early Years Foundation Stage framework. For example, it covers newly qualified Level 2 and 3 staff who must hold full or emergency PFA within three months of starting so they count in ratios.
It does not replace the full 12 hour Paediatric First Aid course. EYFS requires at least one person with a full PFA certificate on the premises whenever children are present, and on outings. Childminders must hold the full certificate. If you’re not sure which course you need, get in touch before booking.
Certification
You’ll receive an FAIB certificate on successful completion, valid for three years. Practical skills are assessed through the day.
