About this Event
For the past 10 years, E4E has been hosting critical conversations about the challenges and brilliance of Black Children. Each event has highlighted the work and perspective of scholars, artists, activists and practitioners with an emphasis of providing best practices, perspectives and pedagogy for youth development professionals.
Dr. Andrade is an internationally recognized scholar and educator serving as the Department Chair of Latino Studies and Race and Resistance Studies at San Francisco State University. A visionary leader in urban education reform and critical pedagogy, he has dedicated his career to advancing culturally responsive teaching practices that center community voices. Dr. Andrade founded Roses in Concrete Community School, a K-8 lab school in East Oakland that embodies his commitment to transformative education. His additional initiatives—the Community Responsive Education Group and the Teaching Excellence Network—work to scale effective teaching practices and develop culturally responsive curriculum across urban communities. Notably, Dr. Andrade collaborated with neuroscientists, pediatricians, and psychologists to develop the Youth Wellness Index, an innovative tool that measures and prioritizes young people's holistic well-being over time.
Jeff brings deep, frontline expertise in urban education and youth wellness, having served as both a classroom teacher and school administrator. His unique perspective illuminates the pressures facing public education today and their implications for organizations collaborating with schools and cities. With a passion for reimagining educational spaces and rethinking the fundamental purpose of schooling, Jeff offers practical wisdom grounded in real experience for this critical conversation about the future of education for Black Children.
