Welcome to the Edinburgh Tartan Parade 2027!

Join us on the Royal Mile for a vibrant celebration of Scottish culture, heritage and community. Expect a spectacular display of tartan-clad participants marching through the historic streets of Edinburgh, alongside traditional bagpipers, Highland dancers, clans, organisations and groups from Scotland and around the world.

Whether you’re a local or visiting Edinburgh for the occasion, everyone is welcome to be part of this unique celebration. You can register to take part as an individual or as part of a group, so whether you’re representing your clan, community, organisation, dance school, pipe band or simply want to join the parade yourself, we’d love to have you with us.

Coming Along to Watch?

You do not need a ticket or registration to spectate. Everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy the parade from the route.

We recommend arriving at the Royal Mile, Cockburn Street, Waverley Bridge, East Princes St Gardens or the Mound Precinct before 1pm to secure a good viewing spot and avoid disappointment.

Would you like to Volunteer as a Parade Marshal?

We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our team as Parade Marshals and help us make the day run safely, smoothly and with the brilliant atmosphere the parade has become known for.

With thousands of participants taking part, our marshals are an essential part of the event. You’ll help welcome and organise groups before the parade begins, support participants along the route, keep everyone moving safely, offer directions and information, and work alongside the organising team to help everything stay on schedule.

New for 2027 – Our Scottish Dog Parade

For the first time, we’re delighted to introduce a dedicated Scottish Dog Parade as part of the Edinburgh Tartan Parade 2027, celebrating some of Scotland’s best-loved native and closely associated breeds.

To take part, dogs must be from one of the Celtic breeds below:

Terriers: West Highland Terrier, Scottish Terrier, Cairn Terrier, Dandie Dinmont Terrier, Border Terrier or Skye Terrier

Herders & Collies: Bearded Collie, Border Collie, Smooth Collie, Rough Collie or Shetland Sheepdog

Hunting Hounds & Gundogs: Scottish Deerhound, Irish Wolfhound, Gordon Setter or Golden Retriever

For the welfare and safety of both dogs and participants, all dogs must march together within the designated dog section of the parade. Dogs acting as mascots or accompanying other registered groups elsewhere in the parade will not be permitted.

If you would like to march with your dog, please note your interest within our Dog Parade Application Form. Our team will then be in touch to confirm further details and approve your place within the Scottish Dog Parade.

Please note that indicating your interest does not automatically confirm a place, and further guidance for participating dogs and their owners will be shared ahead of the event.
