What might happen if you let the music and a partner play-dance with you?
Perhaps a bassline invites your feet to wander. A beat catches your shoulders being serious. A melody sends you spinning somewhere unexpected. There are no steps to learn, no performance to give and no gold stars for looking graceful. Just sound, movement and a roomful of humans following what feels alive.
Maybe you sway.
Maybe you stomp.
Maybe you spin yourself silly.
Maybe you listen with your whole body and barely move at all.
It all counts.

Cotters Market may be fluttering around nearby, so give yourself a little extra time to find a park, wander over and arrive without rushing.
🌿 THE DANCE FLOOR
In the spirit of Ecstatic Dance:
No shoes
No booze
No judgement
No phones
No talking on the dance floor
No experience necessary
Sounds that naturally tumble out while you dance are very welcome. You’re invited to listen, move, make a little noise. Or enjoy the music in stillness. Just dance in whatever way feels right for you.
Wear something comfortable enough to move, stretch, sway, sweat or curl up on the floor in. Bring a water bottle, and bring yourself, exactly as you are that day.
📷 FILMING, BEING SEEN & BEING HEARD
We make promotional videos from filming dancers should they feel comfortable. When you arrive, we’ll ask for your consent and filming preference:

You can change your mind at any point. Simply speak to the facilitator on the day. If you leave your phone number, we can send you any footage featuring you so you can approve it before anything is published.
And if the dance leaves something bubbling up that you’d like to share, you’re warmly invited to find Kim afterwards and tell us a little about your journey. A small piece of your experience might help another curious human find their way to the dance floor.
🎶 THE MUSIC
Kim will gently hold the space as we begin with ambient music, giving everyone time to arrive, stretch and settle.
She'll then invite us to ground into the theme of Joyful Connection which will include a demo of what Kim is calling Partnered Touch Activation. Dancers are invited to find a partner to play-dance-explore with, should they be so inclined.
We're excited to have DJ Wan Ban Ichi Ban spinning the decks live to curate the musical journey for this dance. Wan Ichi Ban blends tribal percussion, funky grooves and psychedelic energy into immersive journeys. We can't wait!
🌼 FOR THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE
Ecstatic Dance Townsville is grassroots and community-led.
There is no guru, no dance leader and no hierarchy on the floor. Nobody is here to tell you what your movement should look like.
We’d love the community to help shape what Ecstatic Dance becomes in Townsville - from the music and gatherings to the strange little ideas that might one day grow into beautiful traditions.

Ecstatic Dance Townsville is not-for-profit. We believe movement, music and community should remain accessible, so there’s no fixed ticket price.
Instead, we use PAYMA: Pay As You May Afford. Contribute what genuinely works for you:
$0 if money is a barrier
$15–$20 helps sustain the dance
$30+ helps support the wider community
Contributions help cover venue hire, supplies and offerings for the people who create and share their music with us.
If you can’t contribute financially, please still come. Truly. Your presence matters. Without people on the dance floor, there is no Ecstatic Dance Townsville.

We’ll finish our movement journey with a little time to reflect and integrate through collective vocal sound healing, connect and gently close the space we’ve made together as we sip on some homemade chai.

You don’t have to be a dancer. You only need enough curiosity to hear the first song, feel your feet on the floor and wonder:
