It's that time of year again ~ would you like to take part in a citizen science project? We would like to measure the success of our trapping efforts in our project zone (Orakei Local Board suburbs and Maungakiekie Tamaki Local Board suburbs).
We need your help counting local birds in your backyard any day between October 12th and November 1st, between 8 am and 9.30 am.
If you would like to help measure the success of the Songbird Project, check out the Bird Monitoring Pack on our website (https://www.songbird.org.nz/get-involved/bird-monitoring) to get your:
1. Bird ID Guide
2. Instruction Sheet
3. Recording form (or you can fill it out our online form on the same page). You can submit your recording form (photo/scan) to [email protected], or you can fill out a form provided on the above website.
4. Merlin Bird ID link to help identify birds in real time!
To get you started in getting familiar with our local birds, you can visit https://tinyurl.com/2wjdtkxz.
Thanks so much for taking part in this count! Just a quick note to help us make sure your observations can be included in our analysis: please provide a street number along with the street name. For example, “backyard facing north slope” or simply “Norman Lesser Drive” doesn’t give us an exact enough location to use the data.
Your privacy is important to us — the address is only used to identify the location of the observation and won’t be published.
Thanks again for helping us keep the records accurate!
