About this Event
This course begins with revelation and sacred text, tracing how the Qur'anic vision of rahma (mercy) emerges from a deeper ethic of ri'ayah, a watchful, embodied care rooted in divine attention to creation. Drawing on Sufi literature and contemplative practice, we explore how the human being is formed as a ra'in, a shepherd called to cultivate presence, responsibility, and attunement to the self, the other, and the world. Out of this ground of care, we consider how mercy and justice are not abstract ideals but living practices, extensions of a disciplined inner work of tending, where to care is itself to begin transforming the world.
Abdul-Rehman Malik is an award winning journalist, educator and cultural organizer, as well as Lecturer and Associate Research Scholar at the Yale Divinity School.

Friday, November 13 - 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.

Sunday, November 15 - 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
There will be a 90 minute lunch break from 12:00-1:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
