Día De Muertos Mini Ofrenda

Make Your Own Day of the Dead Altar

Part of our

Mini Ofrenda is a hands-on Hecho a Mano workshop where each participant builds their own personal mini Día De Muertos altar.

Guided by Claudia, attendees cut, glue, mold, and decorate their piece while learning about the traditions behind Día de Muertos and picking up natural Spanish vocabulary along the way (ofrenda, calaverita, papel picado, cempasúchil).

Participants bring their own box as the base for their altar — the size and complexity is entirely up to you, from a simple single-level shoebox altar to a larger multi-level ofrenda. Everyone works with the same set of provided materials (papel picado, paper cempasúchil flowers, modeling clay for fruit/bread offerings, a photo frame), plus a small selection of curated Mexican miniatures brought by Claudia as a finishing touch.

Every participant leaves with their own finished ofrenda to take home.

Materials Included:

  • Colored paper and papel picado (banner-style)
  • Paper flowers (cempasúchil)
  • Modeling clay (plastilina) for fruit/bread/offering pieces
  • Small photo frames
  • Curated selection of small Mexican miniatures (brought from Mexico), offered as a finishing touch
  • NOT INCLUDED: SHOE BOX

Participants bring their own box to use as the base of their altar (any size — a shoebox works well for a simple single-level altar; a larger or stacked box works for a bigger, multi-level ofrenda).

No crafting experience needed—just show up with your box in hand!

All Spanish levels welcome—total beginners included.

It's time to get a little messy with glue, paper, and clay!
