About this Event

Join us at La Peña Cultural Center on Sunday, November 1, 2026 from 5:30 - 9:00 PM for our annual family-friendly Día de Muertos with an altar, bilingual children’s storytime, craftmaking, ceremony, and a son jarocho concert followed by a fandango (bring your instruments!).

Honor your ancestors and guide the spirits of your loved once to rest in power as we seek harmony with the land and with one another with a Ceremony of the Four Directions.

All ages welcome, so bring your whole family!

Free event, donations strongly encouraged. RSVP to get event updates.

  • $10-$15 suggested
  • $20-$25 recommended for family of 4+

What to Expect:

  • 5:00 PM: Los Cilantros (restaurant inside La Peña) opens for dinner with a special Día de Muertos dinner menu. Food & drinks for purchase.
  • 5:30 PM: Bilingual Storytime. English/Spanish stories with children's librarian Mr. Juan from Tarea Hall Pittman South Branch Library.
  • Craftmaking and kids' activities. Hands-on ways for children to learn about and celebrate Día de Muertos.
  • 6:30 PM: Altar Ceremony and Community Ofrenda. We gather outdoors for a Ceremony of the Four Directions and begin a shared ofrenda. Bring food, candles, or photos to offer. Items left on the altar stay overnight, so please don't bring anything you want back.
  • 7:30 to 9:00 PM: Live Music and Jam Session. Bring your instruments and play along by the altar.
  • Fandango in Son Jarocho. We close the night with a lively fandango celebrating life and community through traditional Mexican rhythms.
  • Art and handcrafted goods. Browse and buy from local artisans.

This event is a collaboration with Mayra Hernández and María De La Rosa. We’re honored to create a space that celebrates the richness of Día de Muertos through ceremony, music, and community.
