About this Event
Dèy by Edwidge Danticat: A Literary Discussion
Join us at Atelier Artist for an intimate literary discussion of Dèy, a novel by acclaimed Haitian American author Edwidge Danticat.
Hosted by Nathalie Jean-Baptiste, this gathering invites readers to engage with Danticat’s writing and explore the questions, memories, and cultural connections that emerge through her work.
Our special guest, Dantaé Garee Elliott, Ph.D., is a curator and visiting lecturer in NYU’s Department of Spanish and Portuguese. Her research explores Caribbean diaspora, barrel remittances, and contemporary Caribbean art. Through her research project, Barrel Poetics, she examines the cultural meanings and creative expressions surrounding barrel culture across Caribbean visual worlds. She also serves as Senior Editorial Assistant at Small Axe: A Caribbean Journal of Criticism.
Together, we’ll create space for thoughtful conversation about literature, memory, identity, and the ways Caribbean stories connect us across generations and borders.
Whether you’ve read Dèy cover to cover or are simply looking to engage more deeply with Haitian literature, we welcome you to join the conversation.
