"Nordic seeds aren't nostalgia. They're resilience."
Let’s take a time out from dystopian scenarios and instead dive into a solar punk version of how we can cultivate a future we’d actually want to live in – one seed at a time.
Your body is an ecosystem – and so are the fields. But worldwide, seeds are property of a handful of companies, and sameness is their business model. Sameness doesn't just lead to poor soil. It leads to poorer food and poorer health – for the planet and for us.
Miljøpunkt Amager invites you to this sixth edition of Donut Cinema: an hour of film and setting the scene through Doughnut economics, screening Isabelle Denaro’s documentary ‘FRø’ (Danish for 'Seeds') and an hour of panel dialogue with experts.
We open with Kate Raworth's Doughnut economics – a framework on staying within the planetary boundaries that keeps life going while meeting the needs of all inhabitants on the planet. This time, we focus on biodiversity and biosphere integrity.
We follow with a screening of 'FRø' by Isabelle Denaro, a documentary that examines the consolidation of the world's seed supply and the efforts of small-scale farmers and seed alliances in the Nordics holding onto Nordic seeds to ensure food resilience.
At our event, we say no to the dystopia, and instead, we turn to solar punk for potential solutions – the bet that good engineering and good cultivation go hand in hand. Here, we aim to explore how we might serve soil, seeds, and seasons rather than drain them. Perhaps through precision, data, and AI – or not?
After the screening, Isabelle Denaro (director and also founder of Self-sustaining Cities) joins us for a conversation with Megan Lynn Maurer (Assistant Professor of Digital Green Transitions at the IT University of Copenhagen) and horticulturalist Louise Windfeldt from Frøsamlerne and Nordic Seed Alliance.

Together we’ll find ways of furthering the path we wish to follow and uncover how we can get involved: in the Nordic Seed Alliance, Self-sustaining Cities, and more.
Hosted by Miljøpunkt Amager in collaboration with Climate IT, ITU Copenhagen.
