About this Event
Len Ackland, author of Don’t Bury the Lede: From Trauma and Vietnam to Journalism, was a reporter for the Des Moines Register and Chicago Tribune, a magazine editor, and U. of Colorado Boulder journalism professor. His memoir focuses on two intense events that deeply jolted and shaped his life. First, when he was a teenager, came his father’s horrific death, which he eventually investigated decades later. Second, came his unique experiences as a civilian in Vietnam at the turning point of the American War there in 1967-68 and then afterwards, including work for the Pentagon Papers trial defense team. Journalism became his outlet. His book is available from Barnes & Noble, Amazon, and Bookshop.org.
The conversation will be moderated by Linh Hoang, a Seattle-based artist who illustrated the cover and designed Don’t Bury the Lede. Her recent work includes a series of portraits celebrating the AANHPI mothers of transit workers, now on display at King County Metro’s Central Base.
