DogStar Codex: Return of the Flower Knight
An immersive, participatory performance and ritual activation — the first work to awaken the entire Wende Museum as one ceremonial journey of healing and return.
Culver City, CA — On Friday, December 19, 2026, Korean-American artist Yozmit the DogStar premieres DogStar Codex: Return of the Flower Knight at The Wende Museum — an immersive, participatory performance and installation that transforms the museum’s galleries, garden, and theater into a single living passage from exile to the divine.
Presented alongside the Wende’s exhibition Competing Cosmologies: Interpreting the Sky, this is the first work to activate the museum in its entirety. Audiences do not watch from a seat; they are initiated into the rite — carried through a ceremony drawn from Korean Pansori, corporeal mime, and shamanic tradition, each witness a participant in the return.
The Flower Knight summons the Hwarang (화랑) — the legendary “flowering knights” of ancient Silla, warriors who united beauty and valor, flower and sword. DogStar Codex is their return: the one the world exiled, riding home crowned.
At heart, it is a myth of belonging and a rite of healing. A figure refused as too foreign, too strange, too much breaks free of the gilded shell meant to contain her and ascends — like the Korean water-serpent who waits a thousand years to become a dragon, keeper of water, bringer of return. The wound turns to power. The water comes back. Love comes home. What was broken is made holy.
“I build worlds where the disenfranchised are divine,” says Yozmit. “The Flower Knight returns for everyone who was ever told they did not belong: you are not only welcome here — you are sacred.”
