About this Event

Come celebrate The Jewelry Library's solo exhibit for NYCJW26, "Does This Make Sense?" which features the work of contemporary jewelry artist Doris Chou-Durfee. Stimulate your taste buds, touch the jewelry, dance to the music and smell the flowers at an evening that is truly a feast for the senses.

Does This Make Sense? is a solo exhibit featuring the work of Doris Chou-Durfee. Presented by The Jewelry Library, this multi-sensory exhibition invites visitors to physically interact with the jewelry. Some pieces call out to be squeezed or stroked. Others envelope you in a warm hug. A few can be shaken to music. Some evoke a familiar scent or a memory of something sweet. Doris' creative use of material — such as yarn, textiles, fused bubble wrap, foam clay and metal — add texture to the work, which is accompanied by personal stories and mementos. The show runs from 11/16-11/20 (M-F) at Maison 10 and includes a Monday walk-through with the artist (11/16) and evening celebration (11/18).

Doris Chou-Durfee is a Taiwanese-American contemporary jewelry artist and founder of AMULET by D, based in Washington, DC. Her work explores memory, language, identity and connection through playful forms, vibrant color, and unexpected materials. Treating jewelry as intimate objects of meaning, she creates wearable works that invite curiosity, reflection, and conversation. This is her sixth year participating in NYC Jewelry Week and the first solo show of her work in Manhattan.

Founded in 2018, The Jewelry Library hosts a wide range of exhibitions, talks, and events all across the jewelry-spectrum, collaborating with both contemporary and vintage gallerists, artists, and collectors, as well as storytellers, historians, makers, and wearers. Our mission is to promote jewelry literacy: creating opportunities to look more closely, ask questions, make connections, handle “pieces,” and understand jewelry beyond its role of adornment.
