Power of Drums is a predominantly adult, community, African drumming group that meets on the second Saturday of the month, at Hill Street Baptist Church, Swadlincote, Derbyshire DE11 8HL.Note: Children under 16 can attend but are to be accompanied by an adult.
You do not need any musical experience to join the group, just a willingness to enjoy yourself. We have drums you can loan. Ear protection is advised as it gets pretty loud!!
We have a guest teacher for this session in October only. David Woolley leads a group in Leek called the Marifiki Project and who has lots of West African connections and African drumming facilitation experience. He is coming to teach us African rhythms in his own inimitable style.
David doesn't use a djembe due to having some hand problems but uses a Krin (African wooden instrument) to teach the rhythms and the sessions are fun but relaxed. It's a whole different way to learn new rhythms. Absolutely great fun.
The session will be £12.50 each and include drum loan and refreshments.
Enquiries to Kaye Gillanders on 0777 2281699.
Drumming is a great way to release stress and help with anxiety and you will come out smiling after the session
The hall has access for disabled persons.
Booking is not necessary but if you need to loan a drum please let me know on the above number. Thanks 🪘🎉🪘🍗
