This week the whimsical DJ Jazzington (JP McGlynn) is back at Strut with some swing tunes in his bag!Happy birthday to drummer "Papa" Jo Jones, born October 7, 1911, the defining drummer of the Swing Era! He formed the legendary "all-American rhythm section" with Count Basie on keys, guitarist Freddie Green and bassist Walter Page. Jones was one of the first drummers to promote the use of brushes on drums, and to shift the role of timekeeping from the bass drum to the hi-hat cymbal.
