About this Event
Here is a punny fact about the universe: size matters.
Take something familiar — a piece of metal, a crystal, a drop of material. Now make it smaller. Much, much smaller.
At the nanoscale, matter can begin to show properties that feel completely unexpected from the world we experience every day.
Why should simply changing size change what matter can do?
For Make Room for Wonder, Prof. Sow Chorng Haur of NUS Physics takes us into the world of nanoscience and nanomaterials — where surface, structure and scale can transform how materials behave.
And this will not be physics from a distance. Prof. Sow is known for making abstract physics visible and tangible through hands-on demonstrations and audience interaction.
Why come even if you have NO physics background?
Because everything around you is made of matter — but almost none of us ever stop to ask why it behaves the way it does.
This evening is about seeing the familiar world differently: discovering that when we go small enough, size itself can change the story.
We’re looking for the genuinely curious and open-minded. We keep the room intimate so people can listen closely, ask thoughtful questions and continue the conversation afterwards.
Come after work. Make it a date. Bring the friend you always end up having strange conversations with. Or come alone. Just come curious.
