TMSO is proud to partner with Detroit Harmony for our November 20th "A Night at the Pops" concert!Beginning at 6:00 PM, there will be an opportunity to donate musical instruments (in any condition) as well as an instrument exploration event for children to "try out" different instruments at Detroit Harmony's booth in the foyer. The booth will be open before the concert from 6:00-7:00, during intermission, and after the concert.
Detroit Harmony is a citywide initiative run by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra that collects new and gently used musical instruments to refurbish and distribute free of charge to K-12 students across Detroit.
Over the years, they have partnered with 102 Detroit schools and youth programs in order to help provide instruments, concert tickets, and professional development resources. They work as a catalyst to connect youth with musical events & extracurricular activities.
Detroit Harmony has provided more than 3000 instruments to their Detroit community partners and has funded over 700 music lessons for Detroit students!
TMSO's November 20th "A Night at the Pops" concert repertoire will showcase film scores from Star Wars, Gladiator, and Hamilton; music from Popeye & Betty Boop cartoons; and prominent hymns featured in movies (Amazing Grace, Nearer My God To Thee, and For the Beauty of the Earth).
**Audience members are encouraged to dress up in their favorite movie character costume to be entered into a drawing for 2 free movie passes from MJR Troy Cinema!
Concert admission is free (however, donations are gratefully accepted - you can also donate online: click the yellow "DONATE" button at www.troymetro.org). All concerts are casual & family-friendly. Children are welcome.
