AFRIKAN PARTY by SUPA RICH KIDS (Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri) — Dance
AFRIKAN PARTY is a futuristic ode to Africa, celebrating its diverse and vibrant cultures. Through the story of a child born in 2090 and raised in the United States of Afrika, Afrikan Party narrates the African lifestyle, music, and fashion through the eyes of a young person. It celebrates the countless cultures, traditions, and rituals that connect this child to his past, present, and future. It’s an open window to endless possibilities for new generations. Join the party and experience the rich, multicolored polyphony of the African continent through the eyes of a child in this kinetic swirl of street dance, mime, performance, and fashion. This is a celebration of life, highlighting each milestone in the journey from birth to death — A testament to what we can achieve when people come together.
The four dancers of SUPA RICH KIDS, hailing from Nigeria and Ivory Coast, combine their unique dance and cultural backgrounds in a colorful and humorous celebration of street dance.
Afrikan Party is a dance piece with Supa Rich Kids by OULOUY and distributed by AfricaMoment.

SHADOWS OF HERITAGE by OLIVER ZOHORE (Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri) — Dance
SHADOWS OF HERITAGE is a dance performance that explores the balance between cultural heritage and individual identity. With roots in both Denmark and the Ivory Coast, the dancer, OLIVER ZOHORE, uncovers layers of history, tradition, and personal narrative. Amidst the shadows of his heritage, he unites his cultural roots with his own unique journey.
SHADOWS OF HERITAGE is an exploration of cultural identity and the power of embracing one's roots. Produced by SOUL SESSIONS OSLO through the choreography development program Encounters, the performance premiered at the festival on April 19, 2024.
OLIVER ZOHORE, originally from Denmark and the Ivory Coast, has spent the past few years working and living in Norway. He has extensive experience as a dancer in theater, music videos, TV, live shows, and festivals. He’s also active in dance battles, both as a participant and judge, and teaches regularly. After primarily working as a dancer, Oliver is now inspired to explore his own choreographic ideas and concepts. This is Oliver's first solo work on stage.

JUPITER CHILD (Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri) — Art
Mozambican-born queer performer and visual artist JUPITER is based in Denmark. Their art embodies themes of decolonial resistance and resilience, deeply rooted in their Makonde heritage. Inspired by the epic chisel work of MAKONDE SCULPTORS, their work serves as a contemporary creative revolt and an acknowledgment of African heritage.
Their motto, 'QUILOMBO DIALECTICS', encapsulates the essence of their artistic journey. Through art, they explores the personal and cultural process of reclaiming and advocating for African identity. They primarily work with acrylic canvas paintings and linoprints in a monochrome style, which serve as an ancestral, nostalgic reverence.
Their art serves as a visual dialogue on the necessity of reclaiming our cultural heritage and contributing to a shared humanity.

JOLIE KUBINI (Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri) — DJ
Based in Copenhagen, born in Aarhus, and of Tanzanian descent, JOLIE KUBINI explores sounds from Africa and the African diaspora. As former Ghana national dance champion Paa Tee once remarked: 'I am from Ghana, and you are playing tunes I have never heard before.' Jolie aspires to bring you unique selections, both old and new, that aren’t necessarily found on the top music charts.
In a remarkably short span of time, Jolie has made her mark, entering various scenes such as Roskilde Festival, Musik i Lejet, Carpark Festival, Nakke Festival, as well as clubs in London and Sweden.
A fusion of her dance-rich SUKUMA (tribe) upbringing and formal studies in Paris has equipped Jolie with a profound understanding of the relationship between dance and music. She showcases her extensive musical knowledge and deep-rooted connection to the rhythms of Africa — Ranging from beats featuring HIGHLIFE samples to GQOM, KUDURO, HIPLIFE, and beyond. — DJ JOLIE will perform every night leading up to the show, to get you in the right mood.

JULIENNE DOKO is a French dance performer, teacher and choreographer with roots in the Central African Republic — She currently lives in Denmark. Her movements and dramaturgical lines are inspired by her home countries and travels.
On October 10th, Julienne will take part in a discussion about her practice, moderated by ANOTHER LIFE.

MOVEMENT ECHANGE w. DETOUR DANCE FESTIVAL (Friday) — Live music/Dance
Experience the captivating spectacle of live percussionists and a skilled DJ, creating the rhythmic foundation as four dancers showcase their unique African dance styles. Through improvisation and collaboration with each other and the musicians, they craft a dynamic tapestry of movement and sound, celebrating the diversity and unity at the core of African dance culture.
African dances are vibrant reflections of the rich heritage of the continent from which they originate. They serve as powerful tools for storytelling and self-expression, acting as communal languages that convey themes of community, spirituality, political conditions, and the essence of being human. Each African dance style embodies its own unique essence and purpose.
At the heart of African dances lies rhythm, whether it flows from the dancer to the musicians or from the music into the dancer. Rhythm dictates the pace and flow of both movements and music, acting as a guiding force. From the call-and-response between dancer and drummer to modern studio-recorded music, this intrinsic connection and ongoing conversation between music and movement are fundamental aspects of African heritage, illustrating the profound interconnectedness of all elements.
