Apologies for the very late notification regarding our November meeting of the Denver Postcard Club happening TOMORROW, Sunday, November 8!Meetings are held at the Rocky Mountain Philatelic Library Annex Building located at 2048 S. Pontiac Way, Denver.
Doors open at noon at meeting begins at 1:00.
This is election year for our club so please be sure to cast your vote! The club is still seeking someone to act as co-president with John P. who self-nominated. Members this is not a tough position. There are only eight meetings a year. If duties were split between two members, you would only have to run a meeting four times during the months we hold meetings. Please consider running with John as co-president. Tomorrow is not too late to step up!

Program: Maps on Stamps, Etc.
This presentation includes maps on
postcards, an antique map, a telegram, a
poster stamp, etc.
This is a collection of “persuasive
cartography,” maps whose primary intent or
effect is to influence opinions or beliefs - to
send or reinforce messages - rather than to
communicate objective geographic
information. Maps of this sort have also been
described as “suggestive cartography,”
“rhetorical cartography” and “propaganda
maps”.
In fact, no map provides an entirely objective view of reality. Even the
best-intended cartographer must decide what projection to use, what
features to include and what to exclude, what colors, what shading, what
text, what images – all of which shape the message communicated by the
finished product. Every map is somewhere along a spectrum from
objective to subjective, from science to art (this is part of a statement by
PJ Mode, a collector of persuasive maps).
In another sense, maps are a metaphor for physical geography.
To keep with the theme of our program, our show and tell topic for the month is
maps! You can search through club boxes for a map postcard or bring one from your personal collection.
