Looking for a FREE fun family activity?
Join the Denver Astronomical Society for our monthly Open House on Saturday, Nov 14th, at dusk. This event will take place on the south lawn of DU's historic Chamberlin Observatory, located at 2930 E. Warren Avenue, Denver.
Lawn activity starts at dusk, and the observatory doors will open around nautical twilight (5:13 p.m.) The best viewing happens after astronomical twilight (5:45 p.m.).
Please note: Access to the observatory dome is limited to groups of 20 guests, so we use a timed-entry system. Stop by the table at the front entrance and grab a (free) timed-entry ticket for your preferred time slot. These do get swept up pretty quickly, so plan to arrive early to secure your spot, then step out onto the lawn to enjoy the night sky with our members and other guests until you're ready to head inside.
Please, don't be shy! Our members are more than happy to give you and your family views through their telescopes and answer your questions about astronomy and stargazing. It's a very fun and relaxed atmosphere - come join us!
Weather permitting, look through the observatory’s 20-inch Alvan Clark-Saegmuller refractor telescope - Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune are all up in the night sky and will be good candidates for viewing.
If you need to learn how to use your new telescope, come early, bring it with you, and ask our members for assistance as they set up before dark. Don't have your own telescope yet? No problem! Join members of the DAS on the park lawn, just south of the observatory building, to view the night sky's gems through various members' telescopes.
** No reservations are required, and this is a free event! **
