This workshop is for anyone curious about how to think like a DJ and eager to feel less intimidated by the hardware. Whether you're a regular event-goer who has always wondered what those buttons and faders actually do, an aspiring selector taking your very first step, or a music lover wanting a peek behind the curtain—this session is for you. No prior musical or technical experience needed!
What will we do? What to expect?
- Hardware Breakdown: Get comfortable with the core layout and functions of a standard DJ deck without the technical jargon.
- The Fundamentals: Learn the basics of track structure, beat alignment, and smooth transitions between songs.
- Hands-on Practice: Try out mixing techniques in an encouraging, non-judgmental environment focused on play and experimentation rather than perfection.
- Community Connection: Ask questions, share your favorite tracks, and connect with fellow music enthusiasts.
What you'll need:
Curiosity and an open mind to learn—we’ll supply the equipment and music! (Feel free to bring a USB stick with a few of your favorite tracks if you'd like to try them out, but it's completely optional.)

Hyrax Club is a London-based grassroots audio/visual collective running events, workshops, and immersive art initiatives since 2024. Comprising a dynamic mix of around 15 regular members—from seasoned semi-professional DJs and VJs to software engineers and emerging talent—Hyrax Club is dedicated to peer-to-peer mentoring, open-source creative technology, and making electronic music culture accessible to everyone.
