About this Event

We're back!
Celebrate 3 years of our delicious community with us and bring your words, your friends, your vibes for a delicious evening of poetry, new writing and community!

What is The Delicious Open Mic?

The Delicious Open Mic was started just over a year ago by two poets and Theatre makers Aneirin and Sophie. It was created to give a home for writers of all levels and create a community of new writers in London.

The night is mainly focused on giving slots to writers to read their work, but we have also had people reading their favourite poems that have inspired them, exracts of new plays and monologues, short stories-the lot!

We've had readers come from France and Belgium, so we really must be delicious!

What can I expect?

The arrival time is 6:30pm. This gives you plenty of time to settle in, have a look over your work, have a chat and grab a beverage. The performing/readings will start at 7pm. We have a sign up sheet on the bar if you'd like to read something and you will get your name put into an automated generator, so the readings will be in a randomised order to make it fair.

Each reader will have time to read 3-4 pieces/around 7 minutes. If there is time at the end, there may be oppurtunity to read more if desired. We base it all on how many readers attend.

Around halfway at 8pm we take a 10 minute refreshment break and then continue to 9:30pm. Post performances, we will have some tables to chat about the evening and about art but there is no obligation to stay.

*Theatre Deli is a rehearsal venue. This means, especially in the evenings, there will likely be outside noise coming into the bar during readings. It is also a liscenced premesis, so under 18s must be accompanied by an adult but we strongly advise that under 18s do not attend, due to the unprefictable nature of these events, we cannot know for certain the content of writing.

What can I read?

There are no limitations to what you can read`! We do say though please be mindful of the content you share and be respectful of others. It is our aim to make Delicious Open Mic and Theatre Deli safe and inclusive to all humans. We also suggest that you express any content warnings before you read anything that may be triggering for others and give a little breather before starting if anyone needs to leave.

There is a calm room located upstairs if you need a quiet space and our front desk staff can help direct you to it.

Can I come and not perform?

Yes, absolutley! Bring your friends, colleagues, pet goldfish, managers along - the more the merrier!

Is there an age restriction?

Delicious is an 18+ event. This is because of the nature of our night being an open mic, we can't guarentee what content will be shared and our space is open to studio users and rehearsals seperate to our event. Additionally, the event is held in a bar and our liscencing means that we can't have under 18s after 8pm. If this is an issue for you, please contact us or Theatre Deli Reception Team (020 3735 3771) We want to be inclusive as possible.

I have a question that hasn't been answered here!

No problem, drop us a DM on instagram @deliciousopenmic or ping us an email [email protected] and we'll get back to you! We can't wait! Anerin (he/him) and Sophie (she/her)
