About this Event
Walk 4.6 billion years in one morning. This immersive guided walk compresses Earth's entire history into a single stroll through Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park — every meter representing 1 million years, from the planet's fiery birth to the blink-of-an-eye arrival of humans.
Exercises and questions punctuate the 3hrs walk, sparking exchanges within the group and deeper reflection on time, our place within it, and our actions.
Dr Stephan Harding and geologist Sergio Maraschin co-created the walk in 2007.
No science background needed — just curiosity, friendliness, comfortable shoes and warm clothes. The walk is open to all adults and children aged 10 and above, supervised by a responsible guardian.
4.6km walk, with 18 scheduled stops.
Bring your drinks and nibbles. Warm clothes, good walking shoes.
Meet at 9.45 am by the Italian Fountain (close to Lancaster Gate tube). We will email further details to registered participants.
This event is free for participants and funded by the National Lottery Community Fund for the Environment.
