Datura Style™ Foundations is a 10-week series designed to introduce you to the technique, movement vocabulary, and group improvisation that make this style so distinctive.
Created by internationally renowned dancer and instructor Rachel Brice, Datura Style™ is a shared movement language that brings dancers together through a common vocabulary of steps, isolations, and combinations. Taught around the world, this style allows dancers to communicate through movement, create together in the moment, and share the dance floor without needing a common spoken language. Pretty fantastic, really.
Throughout the series, we'll break down the fundamentals, develop body awareness and control, and explore how individual movements come together to create something greater than the sum of their parts. Whether you're interested in group improvisation, choreography, or simply expanding your dance skills, these foundations will give you plenty to work with.
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂'𝗹𝗹 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲:
• Two technique studies focused on single isolations of the pelvis and ribcage.
• The foundational steps and movement vocabulary of Datura Style™.
• Finger cymbal basics to bring rhythm and an extra layer of expression to your dance.
• Single-movement isolations paired with footwork to create foundational dance steps and stall movements.
• The basics of group improvisation, learning to move, respond, and dance together using a shared vocabulary.
No need to have it all figured out before you arrive. We'll build the skills step by step, with plenty of opportunity to practice, refine, and find your own groove along the way.
