Sunday 8 November • 5 PM–7 PM
A compelling and highly entertaining show featuring timeless songs in a warm, acoustic arrangement accompanied by gripping stories about a lifelong quest for happiness.
Ten years after his passing, Geert Bouckaert, renowned for his acclaimed Johnny Cash tributes, and celebrated singer and multi-instrumentalist Liselotte Van Dooren bring the greatest songs of Canadian singer, songwriter and poet Leonard Cohen back to life. From Suzanne to his artistic testament Happens to the Heart.
The duo has stripped the songs back to their essence: two captivating voices and an acoustic guitar, here and there joined by a touch of piano, a stroke of violin, a riff on harmonica or melodica.
Between the songs, master storyteller Bouckaert, with a keen sense of the dark humour that was also so characteristic of Cohen himself, dives into the singer’s turbulent life. He looks at the different ways in which the godfather of gloom tried to overcome his innate melancholy: first with vast amounts of drugs and alcohol, later with antidepressants, throughout his life with different religions and philosophies, but above all with many, many women.
A Sunday afternoon dedicated to the brilliant Leonard Cohen.
