From Granada to Tunis, a memory still travels. Dar El Malouf invites the public on a musical journey to the heart of a thousand-year-old heritage, that of Malouf, an Andalusian song born in Granada and Seville, carried along the routes of exile to the shores of Tunisia, where it found a land of welcome and transmission, and which today resounds, for the very first time, as far as Montreal.
Born of the encounter between the refinements of Moorish Andalusia and the Tunisian soul, Malouf carries within it the memory of an exodus and the beauty of a rebirth. Its nubas, musical suites of masterful structure, unfold a subtle art in which sung poetry marries ancestral rhythms, between gravity and elevation, between nostalgia and celebration.
The artists of Dar El Malouf bring this classified heritage back to life with demanding fidelity and contemporary sensibility, giving voice once more to centuries-old texts that have lost none of their evocative power. Guardians of a memory shared between the two shores of the Mediterranean, they offer Montreal audiences the rare opportunity to hear, in all its nobility, one of the most precious legacies of a vanished Andalusia.
