About this Event

Emma from Dance Train has been running the Line Dance classes at Walworth Town Hall since it reopened and now for the spring and summer, she is offering a selection of short tasters in other dance styles on Monday afternoons 2:30-3:30pm. These classes are for adults of all ages. The programme is as follows:

Mondays 20th and 27th April – Vintage Strolling

Strolling is an early form of line dance which is often danced to Rock ‘n’ Roll music from the 1950s and 60s. If you like line dancing and / or you like this kind of music, then you will love strolling! It’s a great way to get your steps up with simple combinations to fantastic songs.

Mondays 11th and 18th May – Gentle Lindy Hop

One of the original ‘swing’ dances to jazz and big band music, our gentle version will keep the character and step patterns but leave out the high jumps, lifts and tricks! This is a partner dance, but you are welcome to dance solo, and I will invite the group to rotate partners so that everyone that wants to dance with a partner is included.

Mondays 1st and 8th June – Line Dance Rhythms (Soul, Motown and R’n’B)

Line dancing isn’t only about Country & Western music, there are lots of routines set to tunes from other genres and in these two sessions we will cover smooth and soulful dances set to songs by The Temptations, The Drifters, Sam Cooke and more.

Mondays 6th – 27th July – Rock ‘n’ Roll / Jive

Starting with the simple six count Rock ‘n’ Roll step pattern and progressing to the ballroom style Jive (the ‘Strictly’ Jive) we will cover basic turns, walks and combinations from classic 1950s style to the present day. This is a partner dance, but you are welcome to dance solo, and I will invite the group to rotate partners so that everyone that wants to dance with a partner is included.

This class is for adults and everyone is welcome. There is no fee in advance, the class is based on donations on the day, either cash in person or electronically online - details are given on arrival. If you have any questions please contact [email protected]
