Curtain Call: Costumes from Stage and Screen

The McManus: Dundee’s Art Gallery and Museum is delighted to present Curtain call: Costumes from Stage and Screen, a striking new exhibition that celebrates the creative power and global influence of costume designers who hail from or were inspired by Dundee.

Featuring work by acclaimed designers such as Jane Petrie, Ros Little and Alex Reid, and creatives who have collaborated with Dundee REP and Scottish Dance Theatre. This exhibition showcases costumes from major film, television, theatre and opera productions, the exhibition highlights Dundee’s powerful role on the global stage of design.

On display are iconic pieces including the gown worn by Claire Foy in The Crown, the dress worn by Claire Danes in The Essex Serpent, and Meryl Streep’s costume as Emmeline Pankhurst in Suffragette. Alongside pieces from theatrical giants such as the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Scottish Opera.

More than a visual spectacle, the Curtain Call is designed to engage visitors of all ages and to spark interest in creative careers among young people in Dundee. By weaving together, the city’s local talent and international collaborations. Curtain Call underlines how this Scottish city has left an indelible mark on costume design worldwide.
