About this Event

Help to shape a new Cultural Strategy for Royal Sutton Coldfield

This is a dedicated session for those involved in running clubs and groups of all kinds for the people of Sutton Coldfield – whether it’s choir or crafting, drama or darts, recitals or rugby - anything that involves people getting together to participate.

Culture connects people with the places they live and provides a sense of belonging. A thriving cultural offer contributes to our health and wellbeing, stimulates economic growth, and supports business, making Sutton Coldfield a place where people want to live, work, and play.

Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Council has appointed Trueman Change engage with residents, identify local priorities, and ensure that a broad range of views contribute to a cultural strategy for the town, and a programme to celebrate 500 years of the Town’s Royal Charter (the quincentenary) in 2028. We’re running a series of workshops for local groups to take part in, where we’ll explore in fun and interactive ways, what you enjoy, what you want to see more of, and how you’d like culture to shape life in Sutton Coldfield.

Culture includes:

  • Music, theatre, and dance
  • Local history, heritage, traditions, and stories
  • Multicultural activities celebrating those from diverse backgrounds and ethnic heritage
  • Community events, festival, parades, and outdoor celebrations
  • Religious ceremonies and festivals
  • Literature and poetry
  • Food
  • Performing arts
  • Nature, green spaces, and parks
  • Visual arts and crafts
  • Libraries
  • Sport and leisure
  • Film, photography, and digital creativity

What is a Cultural Strategy?

A Cultural Strategy is a guide or plan for a specific place, with an overarching vision, or ambition that the strategy will deliver. To help develop a plan for Sutton Coldfield for the next 10 years, we want to hear from a broad range of groups; people of all ages, whether you take part in creative or cultural activities, attend events, or have not been involved in either for a while.

Part of the session will include hearing your thoughts on how the town could celebrate 500 years since King Henry VIII granted the Royal Charter. We are starting to look at how local arts, heritage, culture, environment, and sport could mark the occasion.
