About this Event
This offering is intended as a gentle exploration for adults aged eighteen and older who sense that unresolved pain from difficult early life experiences sometimes surfaces, creating friction in present-day interactions, whether in marriage or romantic partnerships, parenting or other family relationships, friendships, community engagement, or professional life.
The workshop will be co-led by Alice Diffely, RYT-500 and Kate Burns, MA, LPC.
Alice will lead a yoga and meditation practice inspired by the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh in his book Reconciliation: Healing the Inner Child, in which he writes, "When you climb a beautiful mountain, invite your child within to climb with you. When you contemplate the sunset, invite her to enjoy it with you. If you do that for a few weeks or a few months, the wounded child in you will experience healing." Incorporating the theme of "Sharing Experiences with Your Inner Child,” the yoga and meditation practice will gently assist you in shifting into the role of providing a loving, welcoming presence for a younger version of yourself, aiming to help your Inner Child feel considered, cared for, safe, and at ease in your company. As you experience the practice, you might envision your Inner Child participating alongside you, playing quietly nearby, or observing you with curiosity from a distance.
Kate will then offer options for a period of personal reflection and integration, again with your Inner Child joining you as a cherished companion. Your chosen activity might involve a journaling exercise in response to a suggested writing prompt, drawing, taking a short walk outside, or briefly observing the natural world, whatever feels most supportive to you in the moment.
We'll then reconvene in Muir Hall to share an Inner Child-friendly snack. Then, Kate will facilitate a group discussion to process and synthesize the experience in the context of a supportive community.
